The Military Mosquito Countermeasure

April 29th, 2011 No comments

Mosquitoes can be quite problematic, especially during the summer months. It always pays to come prepared by dealing with mosquitoes early before it becomes a problem. You can never get a better deal than using what the military uses to handle their mosquito problem. Presenting, the Military Mosquito Countermeasure, a device to deal with that pesky pest the military way.

With a military sounding name to it, the Military Mosquito Countermeasure is simply, a mosquito repelling device to most of us civilians. But its military grade protection may be something that would be quite useful. This device tested by the the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and is proven to be 95 percent effective in repelling mosquitoes. It uses a mat doused with d-cis/trans allethrin, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring insecticide found in chrysanthemum, to repel those pests.

Sony Xperia Arc

sony ericsson xperia arc

The Sony Xperia Arc has been highly anticipated for some time now; those who remember Sony Ericsson’s first stab at an Android phone (the Xperia X10) will be pleased to see the progress the company is capable of making in such a relatively short space of time. Unlike the X10, which suffered from glitchy software among a whole host of teething problems, the Xperia Arc is a polished product that is sure to make smartphone enthusiasts around the country very happy indeed.

The most immediate and striking features of the Arc are its almost unbelievable dimensions and weight; it is incredibly thin and incredibly light, weighing in at a mere 117g (which is lighter than its very light rival the Google Nexus S). Despite its lack of weight, there are plenty of goodies that have been stuffed into this sleek and stylish package; among them is a massive 4.2-inch screen, which looks fantastic and boasts a quality floating dock where programmes and apps can be accessed. This takes up the vast majority of the phone; in fact there are only three physical buttons to be found underneath. The buttons may not appeal to everyone: they are made from a solid silver plastic, which may seem a little cheap and hurried to those who prefer their smartphones to feel tough and sturdy – the main buttons are also backlit with a striking silver LED to help users find their way to them in the dark. The handset is powered by a single-core processor which is fairly quick and capable of handling most tasks with ease; there is also a large battery life which was notably absent in the earlier Sony smartphone models.

While some users may find that lack of home screens (there are a mere five available to choose from) and the text data entry system a tad old and clunky, many more will be thrilled to bits to get their hands on this sleek, cool and ultra-portable smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S

The Samsung Galaxy S may seem like yet another iPhone imitator at face value; however there is more than enough incorporated into this smart phone’s package to keep even the most hard-core user coming back for more…

The first pleasing point about the new Samsung Galaxy S is the fact that its developers have left the operating system side of things almost entirely in the more than capable hands of Google’s Android. Some users may initially be put off the handset by its somewhat lacklustre plastic, which has a tendency to make the whole package feel a little cheaper than its price point should allow. Despite this, the Galaxy S is still an extremely attractive handset and its lack of buttons sets it apart from other Android-operated smart phones. The Galaxy’s screen is a massive 4 inches, and even with this large screen it manages to still come in at an exceptionally light weight, making it very portable. The touchscreen is very responsive and a joy to use, featuring a speedy Swype keyboard. There is plenty to be found on the software side of things, thanks to the wise decision by Samsung (who are not renowned for producing the most user friendly software in the world) to let Google’s Android handle its software. This means that there is an amazing amount of apps to be found, with exclusive features for Android-based smart phones, such as a turn-by-turn Google Map system. This allows a vast amount of customisation to be made to the phone, ensuring that users will not be quick to tire of it.

As with most smart phones, there are a few niggles that keep it from being a ‘must have’ piece of gadgetry; such as a poor battery life, poor loading speed on some apps, a lack of a camera light and a menu system that is more than a nod of the cap towards that of the iPhone. However, for those looking for a quality and reliable alternative to the iPhone or Blackberry options, the Samsung Galaxy S is an excellent choice.
